Copper and Copper Alloys Properties and Uses

Properties of Wrought and Cast Copper Alloys

The updated copper alloys database includes all of the properties data that had been previously spread across multiple CDA publications. In a single search, you can find not only basic Chemical Compositions, Mechanical, Physical and Thermal Properties, but also extended information for many alloys on:

  • Casting Characteristics (for cast alloys)
  • Fabrication Properties
  • Typical Uses of Copper Alloys
  • Fabrication Practices and Common Fabrication Processes
  • Applicable Specifications (Cross Specifications Index)
  • Corrosion Properties

You can search the alloys database in two ways:

  • The Basic Properties Search will enable you to find alloys by their UNS alloy number
  • The new Advanced Faceted Search will enable you to define a set of properties and other criteria to find an alloy or a group of alloys that meet your specific needs.
  • Interested in using this data on your own site or app? Learn more about the CDA API.

Educational Videos

Video 1 of 5: Mill Processing of Copper alloys

This webinar reviews production steps and stages that take place in a flat rolled products copper mill. Generally, this means for production of various copper alloys in sheet, strip, plate and bar forms. An overview is given of the casting, hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing, slitting and packaging of copper alloy products in these forms is given.

Video 2 of 5: The Many Uses of Copper

Usage of Copper and Copper Alloys in today’s world is segmented into areas. A review of these major segments is done in two different forms. Production for each area or areas are reviewed quickly and then alloys that are used in these segments are discussed. Finally, samples of these product and market area are presented.

Video 3 of 5: Processing of Copper Alloys and Applications

This webinar deals with flat products primarily but delves into alloys and usages that are a little different. Again, casting, hot rolling, cold rolling slitting and packaging are discussed. But here we deal with precision rolling for close tolerance and the specific production of clad metals for coinage applications. A discussion of various applications follows.

Video 4 of 5: Horizontal and Vertical Continuous Casting of Copper

Previous webinars have discussed relatively standard techniques for producing copper alloys. This presentation discusses horizontal and vertical continuous casting for unusual copper alloys that require specialized production. Examples of alloys and final uses are included.

Video 5 of 5: Specialty Casting and Powder Metallurgy

This presentation mixes in horizontal, vertical casting and centrifugal casting with production techniques for them. There is a discussion of parts production using fixed metal molds sometimes called copper die casting. And finally, a discussion about making of parts by powder metallurgy processes is presented. Types of parts produced from each technique are presented.
